National Testing Agency (NTA) has been established as a premier, specialist, autonomous and self-sustained testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for admission/fellowship in higher educational institutions.

To assess competence of candidates for admissions and recruitment has always been a challenge in terms of matching with research based international standards, efficiency, transparency and error free delivery. The NTA (National Testing Agency) is entrusted to address all such issues using best in every field, from test preparation OR Mock test, to test delivery and to test marking.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has set up ‘National Testing Agency’ (NTA), (www.nta.ac.in) a premier testing Agency, to conduct computer-based entrance examinations, for higher educational Institutions. This shall bring in transparency and qualitative difference in Competitive examination process. Beginning December 2018, the NTA shall commence its Tests/Exams. Mission of NTA

To improve equity and quality in education by administering research based valid, reliable, efficient, transparent, fair and international level assessments. The best subject matter experts, psychometricians and IT delivery and security professionals will ensure that the current gaps in existing assessment systems are properly identified and bridged.

Examination Mode

All the above Examinations will be computer-based tests except NEET Exam. NEET will be a single Exam in Pen-and-Paper Mode and will be conducted in the same no. of languages as was conducted last year.

Function

1. To identify partner institutions with adequate infrastructure from the existing schools and higher education institutions which would facilitate conduct of online examinations without adversely impacting their academic routine.

2. To create a question bank for all subjects using the modern techniques

3. To establish a strong R&D culture as well as a pool of experts in different aspects of testing

4. To help individual colleges and universities in the field of testing and to provide training and advisory services to the institutions in India. To provide quality testing services to the academic institutions in India.

5. To develop a state-of-the-art culture of testing in India by using domestic and international expertise. To collaborate with international organizations like ETS to achieve the same.

6. To undertake any other examination that is entrusted to it by the Ministries/Departments of Government of India/State Governments.

7. To undertake the reforms and training of school boards as well as other bodies where the testing standards should be comparable with the entrance examinations.

Test Practice Centre

The Ministry of Human Resource Development has mandated the NTA to set up, establish and create a network of Tests Practice Centres for candidates, especially in remote and rural areas to enable them to practice and be comfortable in taking a Computer Based Test (CBT). This facility will be completely free of cost to the candidates This will facilitate and ease the process of being able to take a Computer Based Test (CBT). The entire experience of using a computer will be as close to the actual experience of taking a CBT. All efforts will also be made to provide practice tests and questions so that candidates can familiarize themselves with logging into the system, go through the detailed instructions regarding the test, use the mouse, scroll down to the next question, navigate between questions, review and edit their options and submit questions.

Test Marking

State of the art test marking

NTA will have the capacity to mark approximately 300,000 tests per day. Each year, NTA will deliver lakhs of marks statement to examinees and institutions, in numerous formats and using a variety of means.

The process of marking will involve more than simply tallying up right and wrong answers. It includes ensuring that tests:

  • accurately measure what they are intended to measure
  • generate consistent results across different versions and among different groups of test takers
  • are fair to all test takers
  • NTA’s tests will be reliable and valid, those who take, use and rely on NTA’s tests will do so with confidence.

Qns. Where will the Test Practice Centre (TPC) can get MoU and how it sends it to NTA?

Ans. After successfully Registration for Test Practice Centre (TPC) on NTA website, then TPC has to login in the below link with the Registered Email ID and the Password. https://nta.ac.in/Centre/Login User ID: Nodal’s Officer Email ID Password: Nodal’s Officer Mobile No. TPC has to take a printout of blank MoU after login, sign it using simple paper, scan it with good scanner as PDF for its clarity and upload the Scanned 6 pages to PDF on corresponding space in their TPC login.
